Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Paro International Airport & Scenic Valley Drive to Thimphu

Board your flight and experience one of the most breathtaking alpine landings in the world at Paro International Airport (PBH). Upon arrival, meet your Bhutanese tour executive and embark on a picturesque 2-hour drive (approx. 65 km) following the Pa Chhu and Thimphu Chhu river valleys to Thimphu, the kingdom's charismatic capital. Check in to your hotel, unwind after your travels, and enjoy an evening walking orientation through Norzin Lam's handicraft quarters before savoring an authentic multi-course dinner.

Day 2

Thimphu Valley Heritage Tour: Sacred Shrines, Artisans & Great Buddha Dordenma

Dedicate a full day to exploring Thimphu's premier cultural landmarks. Begin at the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory to observe ancient traditional Deh-sho paper craftsmanship passed down through generations. Visit the Tibetan-style National Memorial Chorten, erected in 1974 with its golden finials and revolving prayer wheels honoring the Third Druk Gyalpo. Ascend the hills of Kuensel Phodrang to marvel at the 169-foot bronze-gilded Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking Thimphu Valley, which houses 125,000 miniature statues within. Spend the late afternoon browsing local markets and the Centenary Farmers Market before returning to your hotel.

Day 3

Traverse Dochula Pass (3,100m) & Sacred Fortress Excursion to Punakha

Depart Thimphu for a picturesque 3-hour journey (approx. 90 km) climbing toward Dochula Pass at an elevation of 10,130 feet. Absorb the panoramic vistas of the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges framed by 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and fluttering prayer flags. Descend into the sub-tropical Punakha valley and take a gentle pastoral walk across Lobesa's terraced paddy fields to the 15th-century Chimi Lhakhang temple, dedicated to Drukpa Kunley (the Divine Madman). Later, marvel at the awe-inspiring Punakha Dzong, situated dramatically at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.

Day 4

Historic Paro Valley Ascent, Rinpung Dzong & Ancient Drukgyel Fortress

After breakfast, retrace the mountain highway toward the historic Paro Valley (approx. 130 km, 4 hours). Arrive and explore Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong), a prime jewel of classic Bhutanese architecture housing religious monastic halls and valley courts. Cross the traditional cantilever wooden bridge, check into your Paro resort, and proceed along the northern valley to the atmospheric ruins of Drukgyel Dzong—a strategic fortress commemorating Bhutanese victory over Tibetan invasions. Conclude the afternoon exploring traditional wooden storefronts and local cafes in Paro town.

Day 5

Pilgrimage Trek to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) & Ancient Kyichu Lhakhang

Embark on an unforgettable pilgrimage hike up to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery), clinging dramatically to a sheer granite cliff 900 meters above the valley floor (10,236 ft altitude). Hike through pine forests decorated with vibrant prayer flags, pausing at the viewpoint cafeteria before reaching the sacred temple cave where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century. Following your scenic descent, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the two oldest and most sacred 7th-century Himalayan sanctuaries commissioned by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo.

Day 6

Final Morning Leisure & Paro Departure Transfer

Enjoy a leisurely morning buffet breakfast surrounded by the pine-scented mountain breeze of the valley. Complete your checkout formalities and meet your private chauffeur for your scheduled transfer to Paro International Airport (PBH) in time for your flight back to your home hub, carrying cherished memories of the Himalayan Kingdom.
